Secure an optimal EPS block moulding production

Today, EPS also known as Styrofoam or pre-expanded polystyrene is used for a wide range of purposes in many different industries. The foam material offers a myriad of advantages due to its flexible and light weight as well as resilience to most chemicals and fluids. Furthermore, EPS is renowned for its durability and excellent insulation qualities making it suitable for usage in construction industries.

As EPS is a valuable material it is often profitable to recycle used EPS and reuse it for block moulding of new EPS mouldings. This process is actually possible with most used EPS by using the KBM recycling plants. For small scale EPS block moulders we offer the KBM Mini recycling unit, while the KBM Maxi or KBM Jumbo recycling units are optimal solutions for larger scale EPS block moulding productions.

On this page you can learn more about:

  • What purposes that EPS blocks can be used for
  • How to introduce EPS waste into EPS block moulding production

You can also learn more about the fully integrated KBM systems for EPS block moulding by filling in this form.

The many uses of EPS blocks

Through block moulding large EPS blocks can be made. Following, anything from complex and decorative architectural mouldings to geofoam that is capable of supporting major roadways, bridges and other civil engineering applications can be produced from the EPS blocks.

In general, the moulded EPS blocks can be cut, shaped or bonded in order to fulfil purposes such as insulation for anything from cold storage buildings to pipe work and wine tanks. They can also be used for insulated concrete formwork and rendered wall systems. Furthermore, it is possible to produce lightweight cores for bridge beam construction and flotation for maritime use from EPS blocks.

Introducing recycled materials for EPS block moulding

Either of the KBM recycling units have a large screen surface, a two step/double chamber system and a granulation chamber. This construction enables EPS block moulders to grind any waste production as well as cut-offs from EPS block production and used EPS moulding into individual beads of a high quality that contain a minimum of dust.

The recycled EPS beads are homogeneous to new pre-expanded beads. Thus, the usage of our recycling units will reduce common challenges like uneven density distribution as blocking of core vents and hot wire cutting problems are minimized. Furthermore, by using the KBM Styrometer mixing station the recycled EPS beads can be added at a ratio of up to 50 percent when EPS block moulding. This is possible as the system is designed to secure an accurate metering between the new and the recycled EPS beads.
