Generate value by recycling your dirty used Styrofoam
To manufacturers in the food industries, the handling of used Styrofoam packaging is a space-consuming and expensive challenge. By using KBM’s machinery these manufacturers now have a valuable opportunity to benefit from their used Styrofoam in a sustainable and profitable way by handing it off to plastic recyclers.
However, the used Styrofoam must be crushed into smaller pieces and compacted to save space before the actual recycling can take place. This is easily done by using the KBM Styropactor as it is capable of transforming your dirty used Styrofoam packagings into compacted pieces that are ready for cost-efficient transportation. Many plastic recyclers will be able to extrude the compacted used Styrofoam into polystyrene pellets for reuse as regular plastic.
Machinery for efficient recycling of clean used Styrofoam
KBM offers recycling plants with different capacities to match the specific needs of moulding manufacturers of all sizes. Either of these will make it possible to reuse as much of the used Styrofoam as possible and regain as much as 90 percent of the material’s initial value after subtracting energy and handling costs.
The recycling plants are constructed as a two step/double chamber system with a large screen surface and a granulation chamber. This construction contributes to the value of the used Styrofoam as it produces high-quality EPS beads that are homogenous with new expanded beads while also having a similar value.
Mixing used Styrofoam back into the production
The high quality of the EPS beads produced from the recycling process allows as much as 20 to 50 percent of the recycled beads to be added into the production of new Styrofoam block-moulding. For Styrofoam shape-moulding, as much as 10 to 20 percent can be added.
During this process an optimum result and return on your investment is reached by securing a proper mixing and metering between the recycled EPS beads and new Styrofoam beads. For that purpose KBM offers the Styromix system for shape-moulding manufacturers and the Styrometer system for block-moulding manufacturers.
